The IAPS rounders competition has been a long-standing event hosted by Windlesham House School in June.

Previously the event saw over 50 schools enter annually. Initially schools played local matches in the first, second and third round heats then the top 4 schools were invited to the final day where they played a full game of rounders in the semi-finals, finals and 3/4th place match.

However last year, there was a reduction in the number of schools that entered due to many schools turning to girls cricket. Nevertheless 20 schools entered the rounders competition, all of whom were invited for a large one day tournament. Rounders is a really fun inclusive game so IAPS are keen to still offer it as part of the sports programme.

The new tournament saw teams play shorter matches in a round robin pool of 5 to start the day. Then the top 2 teams in each pool qualified for the quarter finals, followed by the semi’s and finals.

The tournament was a fantastic spectacle on Windlesham House’s huge playing fields. 8 rounders matches were played at the same time during the pool matches. The girls were inspired to see so many other teams playing at once, all striving to be crowned IAPS rounders championships.

The event was officiated by England Rounders officials who were fair and consistent throughout the tournament.

Windlesham House school always put on a fabulous BBQ lunch with an endless choice of salads and finished off with homemade desserts. The girls struggled to get back onto the field to play the finals after such a delicious lunch!
