The Sports This Month

Basketball is one of the most popular team sports in the UK, with over 300,000 people playing the game and over 33,000 players competing across 700 local and national leagues.

Wheelchair basketball is a fun, fast-paced and exciting sport, and it’s one of the most popular spectator sports at the Paralympic Games.

Skateboarding is a new Olympic Sport....or will be in 2021 when the Olympics will now take place!!!

The GB Team has been training and competing hard to qualify and we will have to wait and see how the qualification rounds will now continue.

We all like to play and watch football but how many of us have stopped to think about where the footballs we are kicking around have come from?

70% of the world’s hand stitched footballs are made in Sialkot in Pakistan – it is time-consuming, intricate work and an experienced stitcher can make five footballs a day.

IAPS SPORT- DESIGN A MASCOT COMPETITION

Is your school a member of IAPS – the Independent Association of Prep Schools? If so, IAPS Sport recently launched a competition for you to all enter this Easter holiday.

They would like you to design a brand new IAPS Sport mascot.

 

THE LOUGHBOROUGH EDITION

With Loughborough being the leading sporting university in the UK we have dedicated a special part of this edition to showing you what happens there.

PARA SPORT

Loughborough leads the way in Para sport and can list a large number of students who have competed for Great Britain at the Paralympic Games.

It is also home to Performance Programmes for Para sports where athletes with and without disabilities train alongside each other.

SCHOOL GAMES 2021

In 2021, the Youth Sport Trust will be hosting the School Games at Loughborough University. The last School Games took place in 2018. This is an inspiring and exciting event to look forward to.

Elite+Athlete+Centre+and+Hotel

Elite Athlete Hotel

The hotel has been visited by lots of different sports individuals and teams – most recently the England women’s cricket team who stayed ahead of the T20 Women’s World Cup in Australia.

As we covered in our last article, this hotel is an incredible option for athletes who want to compete at the highest level

LTA TENNIS ACADEMY

Tennis is a fantastic sport that can be enjoyed by everyone in your family even at the moment whilst you are based at home.

Wheelchair tennis is also widely played by your age group and will be featuring in the School Games in September.

Incus Performance

Based in the Advanced Technology Innovation Centre at Loughborough University, Incus Performance work with swimmers and triathletes – professional and amateurs- making the data on their movement easy to collect and understand so it can be applied in training.

This is no different from all of you, who don’t know when you’ll be back to school. So, how do athletes cope and how can that help you?
