Based in the Advanced Technology Innovation Centre at Loughborough University, Incus Performance work with swimmers and triathletes – professional and amateurs- making the data on their movement easy to collect and understand so it can be applied in training.

They have created the NOVA which can help you to understand aspects of your swimming that have never been available before. Results include your times, stroke rate, speed as well as body angles and stroke balance.

Incus was founded by Chris Ruddock who, as a swimmer, suffered an ear infection and lost hearing in one ear. He started to design the technology in his final year project at Loughborough University and now the company has a team of sports scientists, mechanics, graphic designers, app developers and more!

Here’s Chris explaining how it all began.

The development of the technology has been through four stages to reach the final product: Mk1 Mk 2B, Dawn and now Nova. The INCUS NOVA is available for use in swimming and, in the future, for running and cycling too. The NOVA costs £349.99 for the core bundle which includes the swim specific FIIN vest, NOVA and CLOUD software. For keen triathletes, the Trisuit bundle also includes an aerodynamic Triathlon suit that fits the NOVA device and costs £449.99.

The Cloud syncs the devices directly to your smartphone or tablet. So the information is available as soon as you step out of the pool.
