Mani Cooper started skiing when she was just 4 years old and the Nordic Combined competition is a combined winter sport of cross country skiing and ski jumping. Mani has kindly spoken to us about how she got started with ski jumping but before you read, take a look at how she started, then watch the videos of her ski jumping now!

Hi Mani how old are you?

I am 16 years old.

How long have you been skiing?

I started skiing when I was 4 years old.

When did you decide you wanted to try ski jumping?

In 2013 after watching the four hills Tournament in Innsbrook, with my dad, even though after I said I wanted to try he made me some ski jump crashes (I think he was trying to out me off).

What do you love about this sport?

I love the feeling in the air - its great, but also being a Nordic Combined athlete, knowing that its not over when the jumping competition is finished, that I still have the cross country skiing race to come.

What’s your next major competition?

This upcoming weekend I have got my first Winter Alpen Cup on the large hill in Seefeld and I am really looking forward to all the Winter competitions which are coming up.

How often do you need to train?

I train every day in the afternoon, we sometimes have whole day training days with no school and regular training camps in different countries.

How do you fit this in around school studies?

We have evening study times where we must study everyday.

What other sports do you enjoy?

Because I compete in the Nordic Combined event, I really enjoy cross country skiing, but I like all types of sports where I am out and about and I am having fun.

What would be your advice to young skiers thinking of trying ski jumping?

Go and find your nearest club and give it a go.
