IAPS Sport mascot competition 2020

Once schools were back after the February half term we launched the IAPS Sport mascot competition. The competition was open to all children from an IAPS school to take part. Little did we know what the next 5 months would bring!

One month into the competition being open, children were sent home from school for a UK wide lockdown. As an unexpected result, the submissions for the IAPS Sport mascot competition began to grow!

We did not expect the response to be as huge as it was. It was lovely to see so many schools involving their pupils in the competition, using it as a piece of work to do at home during the lockdown.   The deadline for entries was the end of May and as that date got closer, we received yet more entries! We were overwhelmed to receive 142  mascot designs in total , we did not predict so many children to get involved.

This made for an incredibly hard process to choose just one winning design.  All the  hard work put into the drawings, the thought that went into the character descriptions and all the time spent creating the mascots was truly tremendous.  We wished we could have chosen all the designs to become the IAPS mascot, as they were all worthy winners!

After several weeks of analysing all the designs, a longlist of 18 was chosen. The IAPS Sport Committee (Sport Committee is made up of current Head Teachers from IAPS Schools) then had the difficult task of shortlisting to just 6 final designs. After 2 weeks they had made their decision and it was now left for IAPS’s senior management to choose the winning design.

It was an intense process to pick just one design, they were all winners in their own right! It took lots of discussions and much deliberation, but after several hours a winner was chosen.

Without further ado, we are pleased to introduce the newest member of the IAPS Sport team….. meet Ted!
