Laser-run - By Jack Amor
I have always enjoyed all sports and at Millfield Prep there is a chance to try everything, including some of the less common sports such as laser-run and fencing – both of which are part of Modern Pentathlon. I enjoy all aspects of Pentathlon but I think the laser-run is an amazing activity and great for other young people to have a go at. The running is not too far and because it is lots of smaller loops it doesn’t tend to matter too much if you are not the fastest. When you first start shooting you can be quite close to the target and use two hands on the laser.
As you get older then you progress to one handed and shooting from further away, at the same time the running laps get a bit longer. It such a great challenge as a combined sport to see the fast runners getting caught up on the shooting range by the better laser-shooters and then having to try to run away from them again. It creates fun and pressure and enjoyable competition unlike any of the other sports I do because it combines both being physically fit and fast with having to remember your process and stay calm under pressure. I also like that there are relay events so you can be a team and you can also be a mixed team, so unlike a lot of other sports we always get to train as boys and girls together.
