IAPS Mascot
The idea of creating an IAPS sports mascot came in September 2019. Not only did we think it would be fun to have a character that represents all things IAPS Sport, but we also thought it would be an exciting way to engage with children who attend IAPS events!
We decided that the best way to get children enthused about creating a mascot, was to create a competition. So, we set to work making all the necessary arrangements behind the scenes before launching the competition to schools on Monday 24 February 2020. Children had 3 months to come up with their best designs.
As the weeks went by and the designs started to trickle in, the excitement of having our very own mascot grew. It wasn’t long before it dawned on us that the prospects of selecting only one design was going to be incredibly difficult.
We had hoped to receive around 50 entries, which seemed a realistic target. To our surprise and absolute delight, we received 142 entries! The thought that went into the character names and descriptions along with the originality of the designs and the talent of the artwork was phenomenal!
Astounded to have so many entries, we quickly realised we wouldn’t be able to shortlist down to only 6 designs, so instead we made the decision to create a longlist of 18 – this was still an incredibly hard and almost impossible process!
After several days reviewing each design and reading all the descriptions, we finally settled on the longlist of 18 mascots.
We are pleased to announce the following 18 mascots were longlisted:
It’s now down to the IAPS Sport Committee (heads of IAPS schools) to decide which 6 mascots will go through to the final selection.
We cannot wait to see which design will become the IAPS Sport mascot. In the August edition of bsporty, we will announce the winner!
Thank you to everyone who took part in the competition, we hope you are proud of the design that you submitted. We certainly loved seeing them all!
