Sports Committee Update

The IAPS Sports Committee is made up of 12 headteachers – one from each IAPS district. They represent all the schools in their district. IAPS Districts are like counties – an area in the UK and all IAPS schools fall into a district.

Here is a list of representatives on our sports committee: https://iaps.uk/sport/sport-committee.html

The Sports committee meet 3 times year to discuss lots of sporty items. The last two meetings have been over zoom as we have been unable to meet in person.

The last meeting was on Tuesday 13th October and here are a few items the committee discussed:

Autumn term Sport

IAPS was very sad to cancel all sports events for the autumn term however due to the coronavirus, we were unable to source venues to host and schools were unable to travel to large events.

Spring/Summer term 2021

Under current guidance IAPS will still not be able to run any national tournaments due to long travel distances for schools, overnight stays and large numbers of teams mixing. IAPS aims to offer one day festivals instead in girls hockey, boys football, U11 rugby, girls netball and boys hockey. This will provide your school with an opportunity to take part in any events that you missed in the autumn term. The events will focus on having fun and returning to competition slowly and safely.

Indoor events in the spring

Under current guidance, the indoor events we usually host in the spring will be difficult to host including badminton, basketball, chess, squash, judo. So they are on hold at the moment until guidance changes and we can go ahead with hosting safely.

Summer Term events

The summer term is being planned as normal, as much as possible. We really hope we can host everything as usual!

Small School Definition

IAPS offers a small school rugby and netball event annually. We also want to add to our programme a small schools football, hockey and swimming event in the future.

The definition of a small school has been updated to: a school with less than 30 girls or 30 boys in years 5 & 6 or years 7 & 8 combined except for rugby which will be defined as a school with less than 20 boys in year 8.

Sport App

IAPS Sport is designing a sports app. The app will include lots of information for spectators, competitors and coaches on event days including the event programme, and results. The app will launch in January 2021 so look out for the launch of this!

If you have anything that you would like the sports committee to discuss, speak to a member of staff at your school who can in turn pass it through to our committee.
