Badminton

We are talking about the sport of badminton this month because it’s the All England Open Badminton Championships in Birmingham.

Badminton is a high energy, fun game and most leisure centres near you will have sessions available for your age group. If you visit www.badmintonengland.co.uk and click on ‘Play’ it will take you to a search section and you can put your postcode in to find something near you.

Starting

Badminton England are keen for your age group to get involved in their sport and so have created The Racket Pack for 5-11 year olds.

With thanks to Badminton England for the use of this video.

Talented Spotted

If you enjoy these sessions and those leading the group think you have talent for the sport they will encourage you to join a club. Find a local club here.

Competitions

If you decide to join a club then you can play on the Junior Competition circuit from Under 11 to U19 age groups. These circuits are split into three levels; Gold, Silver and Bronze and points are awarded in each tournament you enter. You will also receive a player grading after competing in your first tournament to help you to find the best tournaments for you.

Pathway

There is also a performance pathway to identify players who could potentially play for their country in the future!

Young Officials

Badminton England offered applications from students to officiate at their National Schools Badminton Championships finals between 2-3 May 2020.

This is Badminton's largest schools participation event with over 20,000 children representing more than 800 schools during the championships. Students will act as young officials and score matches from an umpire’s chair!
