Rugby World Cup Update

As we go 'live' with this October edition, the Rugby World Cup has provided some incredibly exciting matches and, thankfully more recently, fewer illegal tackles.

Here is an update on the progress of the home nations.

Wales

Excitingly, the Wales team were the first quarter-finalist to be confirmed following their staggering 40-6 win against Australia. However, it has also meant that Australia are on the edge of leaving the competition at the pool stages for the first time.

Ireland

“That’s right up there. It was incredibly tough but we fronted up. We’ve got to make it count now..." said Ireland Captain, Johnny Sexton after his team's epic victory against South Africa.

It was a match that was exciting from start to finish with an incredible pace that never seemed to drop. The Springboks had the early advantage but Ireland came back quickly and Bundee Ali was a well deserved man of the match. Ireland were in the lead at half time but South Africa's Cheslin Kolbe scored 11 minutes into the second half to take the lead back.  Sadly for the Springboks, they missed three out of four penalties and a conversion and Ireland won the match.

Scotland

Scotland are still hopeful for a Pool B qualification having won 45-17 against Tonga and therefore gaining a bonus-point and also beating Romania 84-0. We are looking forward to their exciting game against Ireland on 7th October.

England

England have won all of their games so far and their recent match against Chile saw Henry Arundell score five of England’s eleven tries on his Rugby World Cup debut. They have one more match to play against Samoa on 7th October but have already qualified for the quarter finals.
