Men's Cricket World Cup 2023
The Men’s cricket World cup ended last month in an exciting final between India and Australia.
Australia were the victors, winning a brilliant competition that also set a number of records. Here are 10 of them!
1. Every team won at least two matches each.
2. Australia’s win was their 6th which makes them the most victorious team in the World Cup.
3. Australia have also appeared in the most finals of the World Cup, 8 out of 13. India and England came joint second with 4 finals each.
4. Virat Kohli of India won the record for the most number of runs scored in a World Cup– 765. This now puts Sachin Tendulkar in second with the 673 runs he scored in 2003.
5. Kohli also won the record for the most centuries. He achieved 50, again overtaking Tendulkar who had the previous record of 49. He was also a great bowler, entertaining the crowd!
6. South Africa achieved the highest number of points at 428/5 which was the highest score in a World Cup game.
7. Mohammed Shami of India became the fastest ever bowler to reach 50 wickets in just 17 innings.
8. Rohit Sharma, also of India, again beat another of Tendulkar’s records. He achieved 7 centuries, beating Tendulkar’s 6.
9. Glenn Maxwell of Australia scored the fastest century off only 40 balls. He hit 9 fours and 8 sixes!
10. Quinton de Kock of South Africa scored the most runs of any wicketkeeper batter in a single World Cup with 594.
