Fast5 Netball
This month sees the return of the Fast5 netball competition.
Being held at the Wolfbrook Arena in Christchurch between 11th - 12th November, this exciting, shortened, fast version of netball involves the top six most experienced Fast5 teams in the World - England, New Zealand, Australia, Jamaica, Malawi and South Africa.
For the second time since the competition began, a men's competition will run alongside the women's with three teams from New Zealand, Australia and South Africa taking part.
The organisers of the event are finding that this vibrant version of netball is attracting new audiences to the sport akin to The Hundred and cricket.
There are several differences to normal netball rules. There are 10 players on a team with 5 allowed on court at one time but there are unlimited substitutes. The centre passes do not alternate but are always taken by the team that did not score.
There are three scoring areas which are worth 1, 2 or 3 goal points depending on how far from the post they are. Find out more about the rules here:
The hosts, New Zealand - known as The Fast5 Ferns- have won most of the competitions to date although Australia won last year. In fact all of the teams are still on top form following the Netball World Cup this summer. South Africa in particular, having hosted the World Cup and finishing runners up in the Fast5 last year, will be keen to make their presence known.
