Rugby Union and Gilbert are 200

It is 200 years since William Webb Ellis picked up the ball at Rugby School and began running with it, thereby creating the game of rugby in 1823.

Over 600,000 fans are expected at this year’s tournament and Gilbert is celebrating almost 200 years of rugby ball creation - the ‘Rugby School Football’ was created by William Gilbert in 1851.
