Basketball

What’s the latest?

According to Basketball England, Junior training and competitions including local U18 leagues and younger, can still go ahead despite the Government changes to guidance for sports.

This is great news for those of you who already play basketball as well as those who are keen to start playing this fantastic sport.

If you’re new to the game, simply visit www.basketballengland.co.uk then click on Get Involved, then Play and there’s a Find a Court search box . It’s that simple. Just add your postcode and find basketball near you.

If you want to have the low down on the basics of the game and the positions simple take a look at Basketball England’s easy to follow guides.

#PROJECT SWISH

Already playing but lacking a decent outdoor court to play on with your friends?

This year there’s been a surge in requests for new nets to be sent to previously unloved basketball courts. The target of giving out 2,500 nets to courts across the country has already been reached!

Last year 2200 nets were sent out to over 800 locations and 300 new outdoor courts were created!

If you want to improve a court near you look out for #projectswish in 2021.

Take a look at the difference in one of the courts that has been renovated….

3 X 3 BASKETBALL

The great part about basketball is that you can play no matter how many friends you have in your school pod who want to give it a go.

You don’t have to play by strict rules, but make up a version of the game that you enjoy with 2 of you, 3 of you or more.

However, if you have enough players you might want to find out more about an exciting version of basketball that’s taking the professional basketball world by storm – 3 x 3

The first official event following the 3 x 3 format was at the Youth Olympic Games in 2010 and it has grown in popularity so much that it will feature at the delayed Olympic Games in Japan in 2021 and then again at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022!

It’s a faster game as it’s played on half the court, for a shorter time and there’s only one basket – used by both teams!
