Football

Football has grabbed the headlines during the last few months as the lack of matches to watch live or on television left a big gap in many people’s lives and they are very happy it’s back!

One very famous gentleman, Captain Sir Tom Moore, who raised an incredible £32 million for the NHS, was very happy to receive a visit from ex-England Captain David Beckham recently too and a framed England shirt!

So what are the recent football headlines?

The Premier League players are playing as usual although without the fans still as we write this and with constant testing. Grassroots football has returned and hopefully your school will allow you to play within new rules and guidelines. Read our FA approved guide to help you return to grassroots football here.

The Lionesses have a new manager.

Sarina Wiegman has been named as the new England Women’s head coach replacing Phil Neville in September 2021.

Sarina is an ex football player who played midfield for her country, the Netherlands, over 100 times! When she stopped playing she started out coaching grassroots football and eventually made it to coach the Netherlands! She has won FIFA’s Best Women’s Coach and the Netherlands won the EURO 2017 title and reached the 2019 World Cup final with her guidance. Exciting times ahead we hope for the Lionesses!

Fixture news just out!! The Lionesses have a confirmed match away vs Germany on Tuesday 27th October! So they will be getting together to train this month at St George’s Park.

The Barclays FA Women’s Super League and the Women's Championship also start 6th September.
