LTA Youth

Did you know that during the pandemic the percentage of children taking part in daily sport fell from 46.8% to 19%?!!!

LTA Youth is a new and innovative junior programme aimed at 4-18 year olds, created to help more children enjoy the benefits of playing and staying in tennis, whatever age, gender, ability, disability or background. Fun, safe, inclusive and competitive, the programme provides fun, action-packed sessions with a range of activities designed to help children your age to develop skills for life, on and off the court.

As outdoor tennis begins to re-open across Britain it makes it the prime time for you to enjoy LTA’s new youth coaching programmes in and outside school.

The LTA is striving to help young people live happier and healthier lives, with a target of inspiring 10% of children in Britain to play tennis once a week by 2023. More than just learning tennis, LTA Youth helps develop a whole range of physical and neurological abilities including balance, coordination and fine motor skills, with activities involving decision-making and strengthening hand-eye coordination. These are core skills that will help set you up for life, not just for tennis.

Top British tennis talent are also showing their support for the programme and its positive impact. Rising tennis stars Emma Raducanu and Paul Jubb, and double Paralympic medallist Lucy Shuker will all be supporting LTA Youth throughout the year.

How does it work?

When enrolling onto the programme for the first time, you will be given a colour, based on your age and tennis experience, which will then determine what size court and racket, as well as what pressure ball, you play with. The LTA knows that you want to play in groups and with your friends, so coaches will support you to develop skills to become a more proficient player - no matter what your age or level.

Never played tennis before?

To make it easier there is a dedicated tennis taster course called LTA Youth Start, which combines coach content from the Blue & Red stages. For just £29.99 (plus postage) you will receive 6-hours of coaching sessions (typically one hour per week for 6 weeks) a tennis racket, balls, a personalised t-shirt, certificates and more. Enrolling in LTA Youth Start will take footwork, agility, strength and speed to the next level which, ultimately, will help you to develop physical skills that you can take into all walks of life.

Having the option to take part in competition is essential to keeping young people like you involved in sport and helping you develop and progress.
