NATIONAL RACE EVENTS
The NSSA run a whole series of Indoor and outdoor race events across the UK with pupils taking part in school teams or as individuals, representing their school. Over the last year, it’s been great to get back to these great events and expand the number with all of them seeing some great competition from experienced racers and many who are brand new to racing. The events are run in such a way as to be welcoming and unintimidating for new racers.
These are run mainly in spring, summer and autumn terms due to the numbers involved and the slopes being much busier through the winter term.
The results from this years events can be found here and we will be running a similar programme through next year.
NATIONAL SCHOOLS RACE LEAGUES
These are events held locally through the winter, between September and April, open to all school age children, with the results from all sessions at each venue being combined to give an overall result, from which skiers will qualify for the national leagues finals during the summer term. We introduced this programme last academic year and it proved very successful, despite having to work within the Covid regulations. We are hoping that it will be more successful going forward.
At each slope taking part, a course will be set and marked. Then approximately 3 or 4 times over the winter, the NSSA will run sessions at the slope. Sessions will be 2 hours long and include coaching.
During each session, a small group of racers will attend and run training with coaches and 3 timed runs. These timed runs will be recorded and used for the final results. The League finals will take place in the summer term.
They do not restrict entry to schools with a minimum number of racers. We allow single racers from a school to take part as we are aware that some schools just do not have enough
TRAINING
The NSSA works with a large number of schools to run training at a local level with programmes ranging from ad hoc sessions, all the way to regular UK training and training and support at overseas events. We have a good relationship with many local facilities and work hand in hand with them to run our programmes.
FREESTYLE EVENTS
We are now looking to expand to run a small series of Indoor and outdoor freestyle events across the UK with pupils taking part in school teams or as individuals, representing their school. These are likely to be linked to the race events initially. Watch this space for more details.
ALPINE EVENTS
This year sees the return of the British Schools Alpine Open Champs after last year's absence so we’re full steam ahead with organising that and ensuring that it runs to the same high standard as previous events.
