Rugby League

Last month we gave you an article on the return to Rugby Union and this month we’ve spoken to the team at Rugby League HQ.

Virtual Rugby

During lockdown, the Rugby Football League – or RFL – set up Skill to Play. This was a chance to keep up to date with rugby league from home and it’s still available on the side bar at  https://www.rugby-league.com/get_involved/play

They held a Try of the Week competition:

As well as highlighting lots of the fun activities everyone had been trying.

If you visit that page you will still have access to lots of virtual activities as well as Skill to Play including Virtual Clubs, Fit to Play and Active at Home. These resources are all available to download and complete at home or in small groups.

Community Rugby

Local community clubs are back to training which is fully Covid-secure and monitored for safety. They are following the RFL ‘Staying Safe’ activity guidelines and resources which are released weekly to update clubs on the current stage or on the RFL Return to Play roadmap.

We have some great news! Despite everything that’s going on in the world, Youth and Junior fixtures will still be returning during October and November!!

Schools Rugby

Schools are also using the ‘Staying Safe’ resources, and until competitions can return the RFL are offering a virtual competition for them to engage in called ‘Virtual Clubs for Schools’.

Pupils will complete Rugby League skill challenges , collecting points for themselves and their team. At the moment this can be done virtually, with points compared at the end, or when guidelines allow with pupils competing against each other all in one venue.

Here’s an example of one of the challenge cards.

The RFL is also launching a new skills challenge resource and they have allowed us to share one of the cards with you here.

For boys and girls in years 7 -11, everyone is hoping that the fantastic National Champion Schools competition will return in January 2021, followed by the RLWC 2021 InspirationAll 9’s competition which this year is for boys in Years 7-9 and girls in Year 7 during the summer term. The finals of both competitions will be held in July 2021.
