Game, Set, Match: putting the fun back into children’s tennis

Shuffle Up Games has served up a true delight by adding to its already successful portfolio of products with a new Tennis Skills and Fitness game, just in time for Wimbledon.

The game encourages young tennis players to get moving in a fun and exciting way, whilst simultaneously teaching key principles of strength and conditioning which are usually overlooked.

The game consists of 70+ cards, which include full-colour photographs that demonstrate correct technique, along with step-by-step guidelines for rep ranges and difficulty levels. The cards come together to form 14 different games, which can be adjusted to suit all skill levels.

Of the 70+ challenging skill cards, each one is colour co-ordinated to provide guidance on skill level:

Green Cards - The simplest activities with no prior experience needed.

Amber Cards - More challenging activities.

Red Cards - The most complex activities to slowly work towards.

Shuffle Up can be used as a coaching tool for both tennis coaches and PE teachers looking to implement skill development and strength and conditioning work into sessions, or it can be used by families, as well as by the players themselves.

Gemma Coles, CEO at Shuffle Up Games, said: “Often children switch off at the idea of doing traditional strength and conditioning work, so it was important to keep that fun element alive with Shuffle Up! We are really looking forward to launching this game in the run up to Wimbledon this year and are hoping to inspire more children to get into tennis.”

With over twenty years of experience in the gymnastics industry, Gemma understands the importance of strength and conditioning in sport. Following on from the successful launch of the gymnastics, rugby and football edition’s, the business has grown from strength to strength, diversifying into various sports.

Each game is created with the help of sporting experts in their respective fields. The Shuffle Up Tennis Skills and Fitness game was launched with help from ex-tennis pro, Marcus Willis. Marcus has had quite the tennis career, with a notable highlight seeing him play against Roger Federer at Wimbledon in 2016.

Marcus commented:

“I love how the game has elements that are competitive, as a kid I was very competitive and lots of other kids are too. The games are clever; challenging you to beat your own scores whilst insisting on good technique.”

“We factored in playing ability to this game’s design to ensure it is inclusive. You don’t have to have experience to be able to play. Equally, as an ex-pro player I find the hardest cards challenging, so I know we have something for everyone with this.”

Both coaches have used their skills and methods to develop countless tennis players and gymnasts and believe these skills should be accessible to all. This game can and should be used by anyone and everyone; from experience tennis coaches looking to mix things up, to teachers and parents who want to increase a child’s physical activity. So, to get moving in fun and exciting ways, put on your kit, grab your crew and shuffle up!
