Who we are:
We are Desapline Martial Arts from the beautiful seaside town of Scarborough in North Yorkshire. Our club was established in 2014 by ten-time Martial Arts World Champion and 7th Dan Black Belt, Andy Desa. We started as a small group of 25 students, and have grown to over 200 students from the age of 2 upwards. The littlies are cute, but they can still pack a punch!
What we do:
We train throughout the week in the arts of kickboxing, taekwondo and fitness with our Head Coach, Andy and his team of dedicated coaches, regularly travelling to participate in local, regional, national and international competitions. There is never a dull moment; we are always working hard towards the next level of training, grading and competition. There’s always something more to strive for as individuals and as a team; we can’t get enough!
Major achievements:
Our kickboxing team first competed in the International Combat Organisation (ICO) World Championships in Birmingham in October 2017, making three students World Champions, the youngest being a 9-year-old girl. In October 2018, the team again represented England, this time in Rome, Italy. Every single student medalled and we brought home six gold medals as part our haul. The plane was a lot heavier on the way home with all our medals, and we even got a shout out and a round of applause from the pilot, crew and everyone on board. It was such a wonderful experience and we cannot wait to do it all again.
This year has seen even more success with a whopping 24 of our team qualifying in open competition to represent England once again in the ICO World Championships in Glasgow in October. Desapline Martial Arts represent nearly a quarter of the whole Kickboxing England Team, which is quite an astonishing achievement. We are hoping for lots more success so please do follow our progress to see how we get on. Maybe next time you’ll be coming with us ☺!

Education and Development:
Our Club recognises the importance of skills recognition and development. We work with educational partners including the Scarborough & North Yorkshire Children’s University, University of Hull and the National Literacy Trust on different projects building on the development of cultural, social and sporting capital of our students.
