Brave Mind - New Beginnings
Starting something new, whether it is a new school term, joining a new team or trying a new sport, can sometimes be a bit scary. What if we were to tell you that is normal! Take Erling Haaland, Premier League footballer, for example, he recently said that he often feels nervous before a game of football. The emotions we feel when starting something new tell us that we care and that this event is important to us, and that’s great!
New beginnings are also an example of a transition. When we move up a school year, join a new team or become interested in a new sport, we are putting ourselves in to new positions and situations that can be fun and exciting.
One practical tip, to help you manage your new beginnings the best you can, is to consider your personal toolkit. Your toolkit contains all the great skills and strengths that you possess, which allow you to be brave and awesome when you try something new for the first time. In your toolkit you also have all of the support from a parent, teacher, coach, your friends and family. These tools can help you to manage some of the worries you may have about a new beginning by giving you confidence to show off how awesome you are in your new school, team or sport.
Each month we are going to focus on a new skill, strength or topic that you can add to your personal toolkit. Let us know if there are any topics you would like us to cover by sending them to contact@bsporty.co.uk.
Activity: You can do this on your own, with a group of friends or with a parent or teacher.
What new beginnings have you got coming up? (There may be some you have just started too!)
What are your strengths? Have a go at writing them, drawing them or acting them out!
Who is in your toolkit? Think about your friends, family and important adults in your life, who helps you when you start something new and how do they help you?
