Girls in Gloves
Girls In Gloves was set up after we received funding from Maverick Stars Trust to launch a Girls Boxing Project locally after being nominated by our National Governing Body, England Boxing.
The project involved launching Girls Boxing classes in schools so that more girls could try the sport.
It was a huge success and the project has now grown to 4 schools and at its peak is training over 100 girls a week.
The club itself has seen a rise in female boxers and we now have 10 who actively compete.
Two Girls who joined us from our original programme have since gone on to win Gold Medals in Sweden and have their eyes firmly set on winning the National Championships.

Some comments from our boxers:
“I love being part of the girls in gloves because all the girls are really nice and motivating to each other and we are really good friends and Dave the best coach ever has helped grow my confidence by training me really hard and making it fun while we train together.”
Kianah Hickson, Aged 11
“I feel so lucky that Dave visited my school last year and he introduced me to this great sport (BOXING). Boxing at Wimborne Pro-Am boxing club has given me so much, I have made what I call a second family, I have grown in confidence something I have found difficult, I’m treated as a boxer not a girl every one at the gym is treated the same something I really like, also it has given me great disciplines. I would recommend boxing to anyone, i was never good at sticking to a sport but this is not just a sport, boxing is a individual sport but you will never feel that because the gym is with you. The opportunities the girls programme at wimborne abc have given me like sparring across the country and taking part in tournaments abroad has opened my eyes to a career in boxing and the support given to me throughout I feel more happier, confident and more driven and inspired then ever! I now believe in myself and that’s down to dave and the girls boxing program.”
Grace Shire, Aged 13
“I love being part of our boxing squad. It was the best decision I ever made to take up this sport. I have made new friends for life and we are one big family. It has helped massively with my confidence and fitness and I love inspiring others. Being a part of our squad feels special, we are all in it together and support each other loads.”
Chloe Dover, Aged 13
“It's great to be involved in the girls programme and be able to box with other females with the same goal. With being at other clubs before, with no females it's a totally different atmosphere and alot more enjoyable to train. This also helps with confidence and improves social skills outside of school whilst staying fit and healthy.”
