Golf
England Golf is super keen to get more young people playing the sport. They want to lose the image that so many people have that it’s elitist and boring and old fashioned and fusty.
So bsporty are here to help with that aim as we think golf is a great sport for kids to play. It’s another sport that’s equally open to boys and girls. There are golf course and golf ranges across the country and how about pitch and putt and crazy golf?!
Did you know that there are golfers in your age group competing this month?
*On 6th August, there is the U14 Boys Open Amateur Stroke Play competition at Trentham Golf Club, Stoke on Trent.
* On the same day it is the U16 and U14 Girls Open Amateur Stroke Play competition at Gerrards Cross Golf Club.
* On 19th August at Trent Lock, Nottingham there is the Girls’ Festival of Golf involving 6 counties in the North Midlands regions – Leicestershire and Rutland, Lincolnshire, Staffordshire, Derbyshire, Shropshire and Nottinghamshire.
*Plus, on 27th August it is the Boys’ County Championship.

We spoke to young golfer Jessie Sheridan
Hi Jessie, how old are you and how long have you been playing golf?
I am 10 years old and I started playing golf when I was 5 when my Dad bought me some Barbie golf clubs!
Which club do you play at?
I play at Cosby golf club in Leicester (the best golf club lol)
Do you play other sports as well?
Yes I am also a cheerleader for Elite Storm and I love it!
Why did you first give golf a try?
My Dad plays golf and it looked very fun, so I asked my Dad if I could give it a try and he said yes.
Is it difficult to learn?
It’s easy to learn how to play golf but sometimes it is very challenging (this is when I eat sweets from my bag and laugh with my friends) but practice makes perfect.
What do you enjoy about the game?
Being able to go out and play with my friends and have fun! Also being out in the sunshine and also having a laugh with my friends about our silly golfers tan.
Do you play with your family as well?
Yes, I play with my Dad who plays off 3 and is the Leicestershire and Rutland 2nd team county captain he always helps me on my way round the golf course and try’s to steal my SWEETS !
Why do you think other kids your age should try golf?
Golf is very fun! You meet a lot of new friends you can play golf with and you can also play with them outside of golf. My experience at golf has been the best. My friends at golf are my closest friends and I love spending time with them. We always encourage each other to try and get are handicaps down.
There’s also WhyIGolf week, happening at the very start of August!
