London Marathon
Mini Marathon
On Saturday 1st October the TCS London Mini Marathon is taking place. Perhaps your school has registered for the one mile or 2.6 km race? 7000 children will be taking part!
Who are TCS?
They are the new main sponsor of the event, Tata Consultancy Services, so their initials now go before the event name.
Who can take part?
Children from Reception to Year 12 can take part and have the incredible experience of crossing the TCS London Marathon finish line. Everyone will get a medal and, incredibly, for every child who finishes, TCS will donate £10 to their school to spend on sports or IT equipment.
The 2.6km race will give the country’s most talented road racing runners the chance to compete against one another. The Mini London Marathon has launched the careers of international athletics stars including Laura Muir, Keely Hodgkinson and Sir Mo Farah, (who won the Mini Marathon three times) as well as Paralympic medalists Hannah Cockroft and David Weir (who won eight times). Wheelchair competitors must be able to self propel their wheelchairs 2.6 km within a 45 minute time limit.
London Marathon
The following day, on Sunday 3rd October, the adult version of the Marathon takes place. It is normally held in April but had to be moved due to Covid. However, organisers say this is the last time it will be held in the Autumn. A virtual Marathon will also take place on this day for people around the world to take part in.
The London Marathon is a world famous 26.2 mile race around the iconic streets of London. It first took place in 1981. The BBC will show the 2022 TCS London Marathon across BBC1, BBC2, iPlayer, the Red Button and online on Sunday 2 October. See if you can spot some of the famous runners due to take part such as Chris Evans, Harry Judd, Steven Mangan, James Cracknell, Tyler West or Mark Wright.
