This is the first time that we have featured rowing on bsporty and it's an exciting time to start. Henley Women's Regatta is taking place between 2nd-4th July, the Henley Regatta is taking place in August and the Olympics has a full rowing competition schedule in the summer including single skulls, double skulls, eights, quadruple skulls and lightweight skulls!! (A skull in rowing is the name given to a boat where each rower has 2 oars.)

Did you know….rowing is the only GB sport to have won a gold at every Games since 1984.

The Road to Tokyo

Rowing is a sport you can start from the age of 11 and the best place to find out how (if your school doesn't have a rowing club or family/friends have never rowed) is to visit https://www.britishrowing.org/go-rowing/learn-to-row/juniors. This is the official page of the National Governing Body for rowing - British Rowing - and the best way to get started for your age group.

This link tells you all about the Go Row awards, how to find a club near you and connects to adaptive rowing at the bottom of the page.

Indoor Rowing

Yes, that's what we said! This has become a big developing part of rowing and one that schools and gyms can get involved with wherever they are in the country.

It's open to everyone aged 11 plus and you can find out all about it, including Adaptive indoor rowing here https://www.britishrowing.org/indoor-rowing/go-row-indoor/why-go-row-indoor/

Already a talented rower?

Have you ever thought about trying to take your sport further? Do you worry how to do this and how to fit in studies too? Well, there is a GB Junior Rowing team and British Rowing set out all the information you need to know on this page of their website https://www.britishrowing.org/gb-rowing-team/rowing-for-gb/gb-rowing-junior-team/

This page will be updated as the year goes on but if you're keen to focus on this sport then now is a great time to look ahead at the schedule and find out what you need to do at trials.
