Girls Golf Rocks
The England Golf and Golf Foundation Young Ambassadors have some really great news for any girls who may like to give golf a go! Have a read of what Niamh and Lily have to say – this could be the perfect opportunity for you!
Hi, I’m Niamh, I’m 15 and I have been involved in Girls Golf Rocks (GGR) as an Ambassador since 2018. I wanted to let you know about GGR and how to get involved.
Thanks to the Golf Foundation and England Golf, girls age 5-18 are getting the chance to pick up a golf club for the first time ever across nearly 200 facilities in England with the aim of getting more girls to play and showing them just how fun golf can be.
So, what happens?
Well, first, your local club may offer a free taster session – find out via this link: https://www.englandgolf.org/girls-golf-rocks/ There, you will learn how to hit balls on the driving range and putting green. On the day, there will be a GGR Ambassador like me who already plays golf to support you and make sure you have lots of fun!
Then, if you love it as much as we do, you can sign up to six weeks of lessons. These will be with all the friends you made at the taster session and your GGR Ambassador will be there too. You’ll get to learn to play golf in a fun way with lots of games.
You will also get a goody bag, GGR polo shirt and have made lots of new friends. So, by the end of the 6 weeks you might even want to get a membership at your local club and keep playing! The cost of the 6 week course is £35.
What is it like being a girl playing golf?
Have a read of what another Ambassador, Lily, has to say!
“Golf is a great sport for women and girls. I have played since I was 8 years old and have formed many close friendships through golf due to it being such a social sport, and made memories to last a lifetime! There are so many opportunities for young, female golfers especially since the majority of golfers are male (although this is changing) so you can really stand out! Golf is also a sport that you can play all over the world with people of all ages and abilities.
I can’t recommend trying golf enough - since picking up my first golf club, I have never looked back!”
So, why sign up to GGR?
“Getting out in the fresh air, making new friends and learning new skills in a fun environment. What’s not to love? It not only has physical benefits but can be really good for your mental health too. GGR provides a girls-only, safe environment for girls to come into the sport confidently. Allowing you to not only learn a new sport but develop other skills such as teamwork and communication.”
