Six Nations Rugby
The Men's Six Nations finished in March with Ireland crowned the winners as well as now achieving Number 1 World ranking status! That is exciting for the team ahead of the men's Rugby World Cup starting in September in France...but less encouraging for Wales and England in particular who did not perform well in this competition.
Ireland won the Championship at their home ground on St Patrick's Day weekend! However, it was marred by a controversial Red Card given to Fredie Steward for head contact with an Ireland player. This has later been downgraded to a Yellow Card at a disciplinary hearing but meant England played with only 14 players for part of the game.
The Women's Six Nations began on the last weekend in March with victories for France, England and Wales. England's Co-Captain, Sarah Hunter, retired from rugby after their game, signing off an incredible career for the Red Roses as England's most capped player. Having played for England in a World Cup and having achieved 141 caps she led the team out onto the pitch for an emotional final time.
This Women's Competition is the most exciting to date with media coverage and attendance at new record highs. The players' names have been added to shirts so supporters can recognise them more easily and help them to become household names.
