The Team England Junior Surf Squad has recently been announced! We wanted to find out more about the squad so we asked those in the know at Surfing England.

Members of the Surf Squad are selected from across England based on their performance at local, national and international level competitions. There is also a wildcard process where surfers can put forward a case for them to be included in the squad. We have a number of English surfers who live abroad too, so this is a great way for talent living elsewhere to be recognised.

The junior team meet up to train monthly. These sessions take place with our Team England coach and management team who have a significant wealth of experience across a multitude of surfing and sports performance disciplines. Training sessions are located in Newquay, North Devon and at the Wave in Bristol. Training together not only gives the surfers a better quality of coaching, but has also created a tight knit community amongst the athletes growing up together. It has been commented on many times at international events how strong the comradery amongst Team England really is.

Surfers in the squad are all hopeful to represent their country in competition this year or in the future. Last year’s squad competed incredibly, and we had some stellar results from the English team. The 2022 World Junior Surfing Championships was held in El Salvador last June and was a great success with U18 surfer Sam Hearn taking 6th place in a stacked competition. This is one of England and Britain’s best ever placing at this level of competition.

The 2022 EuroSurf Junior Championship held in Portugal in July then saw Team England claim three European titles and 4th spot in the team’s overall standings.

The team is sponsored by dryrobe who help support the juniors with funding for subsidised training camps and kit.
