Ultimate Frisbee

We love to play frisbee in the garden, the park or on the beach...when allowed...and can’t wait to play again when restrictions are relaxed.

Did you know, there’s a special competitive game of Frisbee called Ultimate.

‘Ultimate is a fast-moving team sport enjoyed by millions of players the world over.........
To compete at the highest level, Ultimate players require speed, agility and endurance. Yet beginners find the game easy to learn and fun to play. Grab a disc, get out there, and discover why many think this is the ultimate team sport.’

In the UK this sport is currently quite small at youth level but we hope that if you start playing Frisbee during lockdown and enjoy it you might encourage your friends and school to give it a try.

At the moment, in normal circumstances, the best chance at playing Ultimate initially is if your school introduces it to you to the game using these resources https://www.ukultimate.com/schools.  There aren't any junior leagues as there aren’t enough players in any location although there are some national youth championships each year at different age groups (indoors and outdoors).

Rules and How to Play Ultimate

Ultimate is a game of two teams.

Set up on a rectangular pitch with end zones at each end.

A full sized pitch is 100m long, with 18m end zones for teams of 7 players. If you have smaller teams then just make the pitch smaller.

A goal is scored when you throw the disc to a member of your team standing (or more likely running) in the end zone your team is attacking.

Importantly, players cannot run with the disc! When a player catches the disc they must come to a stop. A team can therefore only move the disc up the field by throwing it from player to player.

The defending team takes possession if the disc touches the ground, or if they make an interception by catching the disc or knocking it to the ground mid-flight.

The game is non contact! You cannot tackle your opponent, nor grab the disc out of their hand. Watch this video to see how it works.

Want to give Frisbee a try at home?

If you need to buy discs we have been recommended www.lookfly.com.  It's worth getting a good disc.

Ultimate also sell discs, but they have a minimum order of 5 - so not great for individuals but great if encouraging family or friends to join in:
