Wimbledon
Wimbledon, the famous tennis tournament, did not take place last year and instead everyone had to get creative...
However, the event that many people associate with summer in the U.K is back!
It will take place between 28 June -11 July and then Junior Wimbledon starts in July! We will update this page with the latest news as it's released but for now...here's the information we have already had confirmed......
Although Wimbledon returns this month, as do the strawberries and cream, many parts of the event will be different this year.
Queuing
There has always been a tradition of daily queuing for entry to the courts for those without tickets on the day. People often camp overnight to secure a place near the front of the queue so that they can catch a glimpse of some of the world's best tennis players in action. However, this year there won't be any queues. Instead entry is by ticket only.
Numbers
There will also be a smaller crowd due to distancing needs and so they are planning a minimum 25% capacity this year.
Ballot
There's usually a ballot that anyone can enter (like the lottery) to win the chance to buy tickets. This tradition has been taking place every year since 1924 but, again, this year there won't be a ballot but tickets will be sold online. Anyone who was lucky in the 2020 ballot can buy tickets for the 2022 Championships.
How to buy tickets
Later this month the date to buy tickets will be released.
Here is the current news from the official Wimbledon website
" We recommend that anyone interested in tickets for this year’s Championships signs up to myWIMBLEDON to ensure they are kept abreast of any updates. (This can be done at www.wimbledon.com)
- All tickets available to the public will be sold online, and delivered via the official Wimbledon mobile app.
- Tickets will be available for Centre, No.1, No.2 and No.3 Courts, Courts 12 and 18, and Grounds Passes.
Key Workers
Wimbledon is keen to say a big 'Thank you' to key workers and one of the initiatives is the ‘Thank you key workers hospitality programme’ run by evian, Official Water of The Championships.
"This will see front line workers who were nominated and selected in last year’s ticket giveaway enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience at Wimbledon as a gesture of thanks for their amazing work."
Champion
So, who will win this year's trophies....?
With thanks to Wimbledon for the use of videos in this article.
